Sean Molony

Sean is a specialist in alternative dispute resolution and employment law. Sean has been admitted as an Attorney and practices as a private labour dispute practitioner for his own account under the name ‘Mediated Solutions’.

Sean has 22 years experience in the labour law and labour relations field and chairs disciplinary hearings and grievance meetings as independent chairperson for a range of clients. He has been appointed by parties as private arbitrator and mediator of labour disputes as well as a facilitator of retrenchments.

Sean was appointed as a CCMA Commissioner in Durban from the commencement of the CCMA in November 1996 while he was a lecturer at the Howard College campus of University of KwaZulu Natal, until 2008 when he relocated to Johannesburg.

Sean has lectured on and written a number of books in the employment law field. The books are aimed at assisting practitioners –that is human resource and labour relations managers and officials of trades unions- to apply their knowledge effectively in the workplace. He has been a member of the SASLAW and has presented papers at a number of labour law conferences.

Sean is a Tokiso panelist, a member of SASLAW and a director of the Labour Law Academy. He is a member of Godfirst Fourways.

Sean is a Christ Follower, and has been married for 34 years to Jane, has four adult children and 3 grandchildren. He is an avid historian particularly about South African history. He has begun his first novel, a story about the early days of diamond mining. He is an enthusiastic if erratic woodworker. He enjoys reading, playing the guitar and chilling with a glass of wine with friends. He aims to travel throughout Southern Africa in the forthcoming years.
